First Loves Blogfest

Today is the First Loves Blogfest, hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh.  We are focusing on first loves, and I went back to the very first I can remember really enjoying.

Pete's Dragon was the first movie I remember seeing in a theater, which might add to some of the love, but I loved the music and the kid and Nora (but I hated her hair) and Pete and was completely sucked in by the whole thing.  I used to wish I lived by an ocean with a cave so I could find a dragon to roast apples for me.
Unchained Melody was the first song I can remember wanting to listen to over and over.  I don't really even think it was because of Ghost (although it could have been).  I just remember searching store after store to try and find the tape of this song.
I read The Animals of Farmer Jones when I was two.  Okay, I wasn't really reading it.  I had it memorized down to when to turn the pages so that if someone saw me with this book, they would think I was a precocious little toddler.  I was actually a bit of a delayed reader until I had an amazing 1st grade teacher who helped something click, and have been a voracious reader ever since.
I met my husband when I was seven.  Yup, 2nd grade.  No, we weren't high school sweethearts.  We were really good friends all growing up, living in the same neighborhood, pulling pranks on each other and just being friends.  I have always loved that when we started dating, we didn't have to have those weird getting to know you conversations, and it's a bit frightening how often we think the same things, but I completely adore this guy, more than I have words to express.

What did you love first?  Do you remember Candle on the Water from Pete's Dragon?  Have a soft spot for Unchained Melody?

Yay! Pete's Dragon. Oh my heart just melted. I love that movie. Recently we put a lot of stuff into storage and before my husband could pull the movie box out of my grasp, I swiped P. Dragon and stuffed it into my purse. Great choice!

When you know each other that well, not only is there no awkwardness, there are no secrets either.
Thanks for participating in my blogfest!

I love that you married someone who was such a good friend first. It would be interesting to hear what it was like when you two realized you felt a bit more for each other.

Wow- second grade for a first love! Glad you posted.

Oh you guys are too cute!

And I never saw Pete's Dragon. It kinda scared me when cartoons interacted with real life people. I always fast forwarded through that part in Mary Poppins.

I love Pete's Dragon. I want to find a copy of it for my three year old. My two year old loves The Animals of Farmer Jones. I don't like it so much however. I may or may not make up my own story each time I read it.

Oh, Unchained Melody! I love that song--definitely because of Ghost, which is probably my second or third favorite movie after Dirty Dancing!

I don't remember much from when I was little - never did have a great memory. But I fell in love with the Wizard of Oz from the first moment :)

I'd already had kids who were past toddler when I saw Pete's Dragon, but I liked it. And Ghost, and Unchained Melody, really make my heart beat faster for romance :) So cool you married a lifelong friend. I guess it was destiny :)

The first movie I ever saw in theaters was The Little Mermaid, and I was in love. I was a big swimmer at the time so you can imagine the games I always liked to play :)

Tyrean Martinson said...

Oh, Candle on the Water. You just have to mention that name, and I can hear the song in my head. Pete's Dragon may not have been my top two first favorites, but it's definitely one of the best.

Your lifelong long friendship and love with your husband is awesome!!!

My mother in law just played Pete's Dragon for my son. He liked it too. But yes, I hate her hair!
Great song!
Great picks.

I believe "Unchained Melody" was a bigger hit after "Ghost" than it was when it came out.

I never saw "Pete's Dragon" but I sure need to.

Pete's Dragon looks familiar but I don't remember it, oh no. Great picks :)
