Google Reader & Those Who Read

I have currently taken up residency in the land of Keep the Leg above the Heart and as such, am finding time to do things that I never had time for before, like organizing my Google Reader into folders.

Here's the thing - I need more labels because I have Family and Friends, Writing Blogger Friends, Writers (these are the ones whose books I loved), Agents and Getting to Know You, and, well, I just don't feel like they are helping break things down the way I want them to.

So, here's the question. Those of you who use Google Reader, how is yours organized?  I've considered by genre, type of posts, etc. but haven't found what I want yet.

Also, I sometimes don't feel like I have a good feel for the books that are coming out if they aren't talked about by a writer friend, so I have been wanting to visit more book blogs - people who read and talk about books.  Suggestions?  I don't mind a few that are just YA but do want a bit of diversity :)

Do you use Google Reader?  Are you more organized than me or do you just go straight through the feed?  What are your favorite book blogs?

No, I'm not organized at all. My reading list is complete chaos. I hope you feel better soon.

I do use Google Reader and folders! (Even posted about how I organize it a few months back.) I have a blogger buddies folder for those I visit daily. (You DON'T want to know how big it is.) Then folders for new followers, movie blogs, review blogs, and the rest divided among the days of the weeks.
I can't visit all of them - I just do my best.

I've got my Google Reader organised like this:
- New followers (they get moved when I decide where they should go)
- Facebook and Goodreads contacts
- Blogs I love reading
- People who always comment (if they haven't already been put somewhere else)
- Industry sites (publishers, agents, and established authors)
- Review sites
- Extra stuff (blogs not about writing - they really exist, you know)
- The rest

It's not concrete, and I create new folders when I feel like it. The more I can break them up, the less daunting it is, especially as I now follow 230 blogs!

I won't tell you the names of my folders, because they are highly embarrassing, lol. But I organize them by frequency for the most part. People who comment on most of my posts are at the top, then my bloggy best buds, then blogs I just have to read, then blogs I hop around to, then new followers and new bloggers I've found until I figure out which folder they are going in.

I'm not organized at all. I once tried to sort my blog list into folders, but I didn't know how/couldn't get it to work properly so I gave up.

This is going to be not so helpful for you, since I'm not a writer (aspiring or otherwise), but I have mine organized like this:

-Family
-Friends I know
-People I know that aren't exactly friends
-etsy and crafts
-only read if I want to

Voila!

I do use Reader - but my approach is a bit chaotic, I see now. I need to follow your lead and organize!

I don't use Google reader because i don't know how to do it well. I don't even know how to make folders! So when you figure it all out, I'll be here waiting eagerly for the tutorial :)

How lame am I that I didn't even know there was a way to organize Reader by folders?! But I sure am excited about the possibility. Now if I can just figure out how to do it!

I use the folders, but I still feel like it's confusing when I go down the list--it doesn't LOOK organized to me. I love the idea of making a newbie folder! So far I have a book reviewer folder, a favorites, agents and then ones for specific classes or blog fests. And also one for food blogs!

I use it and I'm trying to get better about organizing the blogs into folders.

I sort mine by who I'm a fan of, people I read for fun, people I read because they are smart and I should listen to them (there are two folders there!), and the mommy bloggers I read. And then I break them down into what days I read what blogs. I follow well over 500 blogs, so they need to be sorted into days, lol!

Okay ... I remember someone posting about this once. Possible JA Bennett or Emily R King. I think they had folders that categorized them into how often they posted too. Like "every day" or "once a week" or "wednesday posts". Something like that. I have yet to do this in my own google reader. It's actually a really good idea and I'm jealous you're getting yours done. Let us know what you figure out! :) HUGS!

I do organize mine. In fact, I posted a picture of my categories a few weeks ago.

I follow enough blogs that I have them ordered by how recently I followed them. Then I can know to give my new readers some love and I can go back to my old favorites whenever I want.

I have a lot of blogs I follow into folders but don't think blogger makes it easy to look through. Looking thru your comments I am going to try some new suggestions, such as new followers, new blogs I follow, days of week etc. It's daunting though, finding the time to comment AND write the darned blog! You are going into my 'new follower' AND 'new blogs I follow' folders!
